Venice has to be one of the most visually breathtaking destinations in the world. If you love taking photographs, it’s a real playground to get creative and get some great shots. This post will show you some great Venice Instagram spots I discover on my travels to the city.
I by no means am a professional photographer or huge Instagram influencer, but I do love taking nice photos. I especially love taking photos of my travels. If you do too you’ve come to the right place.
In this guide, I’ve included a rundown of 8 Venice Instagram spots I loved, with some photos and maps to help you find each one.
Saint Marks Square and Basilica
This is one of the most well-known sights in Venice and a great place to take some photos. It can get really crowded particularly during peak travel times so it may be hard to get certain shots. But If you come off-peak or earlier in the morning you will avoid most of the hustle and bustle.
Around the edges of the square, you’ll find a columned walkway. Inside these walkways are fairy lights. The effect these lights will make give your photos a special edge.

The canal at Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute
If you meander your way through the narrow city streets out to the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute in Dorsodouro, you will find a quieter stretch of canal overlooking the San Marco area. The views over the canal here are amazing. You’ll find plenty of colourful little Gondolas which are very photogenic with the canal backdrop.

Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo
This small Palazzo is home to the Scala Contarini del Bovolo – a gorgeous spiral staircase. This is a great Venice Instagram spot if you’re a fan of unique architecture.

Riva degli Schiavoni
This location is in San Marco, looking towards the Basilica di Santa Maria della mentioned earlier in this post. I found that the light is particularly good here during dusk. It’s a great place to get some dreamy sunset photos whilst you’re in Venice.

Ponte del Teatro Bridge
This small bridge faces out onto the Grand Canal. I really liked the composition of the building here that lead your eye down the canal. You can stand on the bridge and take some great photographs here.

Libreria Acqua Alta
This has to be one of the most unique libraries in the world. The Library Acqua Alta is filled with thousands of colourful vintage books. Inside you’ll find bathtubs and Gondals stuffed with copies of books. This isn’t just for show. Due to Venice being in a Lagoon, if the sea levels rise, this quaint library floods. It’s certainly a very imaginative way to keep damage at bay.
If you exit through the fire exit at the back of the store, you’ll find a staircase made of books. You can climb the staircase and look over the edge which peers onto the canal.

The Grand Canal
The Grand Canal is one of the major waterways in and out of the city. There isn’t one particular place along the canal that is best for photos. There are so many different angles and shots to try – just be creative. You can get some really nice shots with the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute in the background from the Ponte di Rialto bridge over the canal.

The Bridge of Sighs
Lastly, the Bridge of Sighs is a great Venice Instagram spot to take some great travel photographs. This enclosed bridge was the last sight that prisoners would see before being locked away. The name came from the stories that prisoners would sigh at this final beautiful view of Venice.

Venice Instagram Spots
This post has covered 8 great Venice Instagram Spots, but as you can imagine there are so many more beautiful places to take photos across the city. My tip is to go out, explore, and get lost in the city. It’s the best way to appreciate its beauty.
If you are really looking for some special photos, you can book a private photoshoot of Venice with professional images here.
