Work with me – looking for a writer and journalist?

by Bex

Welcome to Rebecca Rayner’s Writing Portfolio

I’m Rebecca, a passionate writer and journalist with a deep love for exploring the world and sharing captivating stories through my travel blog.

Over the years, my work has been featured in various renowned publications,  from my beginnings working as a music journalist for national publications, to writing stories for newspapers and freelance writing for various travel blogs and my own blog.

My Experience:

College and Music Journalism

I have been involved in the media industry since the age of 14, when I began presenting and producing a show on a community radio station, Castledown Radio.

From there, my passion progressed, and I became involved with a local newspaper called Winchester Today, eventually becoming the music editor by the age of 18.

After college, I attended university to study Popular Music Journalism. Within my first year, I became a nationally published journalist writing for Kerrang magazine.

During my second year of university, I became editor of a large music news website called Electric Banana, where I ran a team of roughly 10 editors and over 70 writers to produce music-related content such as reviews and up-to-date industry news.

During my time at university, I also wrote for various publications and websites such as Bring The Noise, Noise Cannon, Audio Addict and The Sun Newspaper.

For Blissfields Festival, I also headed up a team as editor, in charge of writing and producing a daily festival newspaper.

By the end of university, I was working as a regular freelance writer for the Daily Star’s music and showbiz section, interviewing some of the biggest names in music, such as Shaun Mendes, Green Day and Little Mix.

A move into straight Journalism

After working as a music journalist, I decided I wanted to take my writing career in a different direction and began working in ‘straight journalism.’

I began working for Newsquest newspapers, writing local news stories covering a plethora of subjects, from human interest stories to crime, daily news, and feature writing.

My role included running our culture section, where I regularly attended local concerts, comedy nights, plays, and other shows to review for the paper.

On to Travel Blogging

After a while, my love of travel inspired me to leave my role in journalism behind. From 2017 to 2020, I ran a travel blog called Rayner en Route about solo female travel.

I also wrote for numerous other travel blogs, including Journalist on the Run and The Traveling King.

Sadly, due to the pandemic and having to make a career change, I closed down Rayner En Route in 2020.

However, I just could not stay away, and started this blog Begin To Adventure in 2022, starting a new chapter in my journey as a journalist and Travel writer.

My Expertise:

From in-depth destination guides and compelling travel narratives to insightful hotel reviews and engaging cultural pieces, my versatile portfolio showcases a wide array of writing styles and genres.

Whether it’s an evocative piece on the hidden gems of a bustling metropolis or a soul-stirring account of an off-the-beaten-path adventure, I excel at delivering content that resonates with readers on a profound level.
